Abstract

In the evaluation of electric insulation in rotating machines, it is necessary to perform periodically several tests, in spite high cost for enterprises as well as a lack of high reliability standard. This paper presents a predictive technique using application of direct current voltages to the insulation of rotating machines, with the aim of monitoring and anticipating potential faults or deterioration of the insulation using low cost commercial equipment. This methodology can measure up to five parameters (absorption current, conduction current, absorption index, polarization index and, insulation resistance) in a single test. Its periodical application would be used in monitoring and evaluation of insulation state in high-power rotating machines.
