Abstract

This article proposes to provide an alternative solution for the management of OTR tires. To this end, the objective has been to develop a mathematical model that considers the influence of internal and external factors of OTR tires during hauling. This study focuses on a copper porphyry mine in Peru, exploited under the open-pit method; using as samples the tires of brands “A” and “B” as shown; standard OTR measures of 59/80 R 63, 53/80 R 63 and 40.00 R 57, 75 mining trucks (“U”, “V”, “X”, “Y”, “Z”, nominal capabilities of 360, 220, 290, 290 and 220 metric tons respectively). The methodology includes the following procedures: 1) on-site preliminary information collection (data-gathering) of the main influencing factors; 2) in-switchgear information processing concerning: Inflation pressure, rotation, twinning, tonkilometer per hour, terrain surface with sculpture, bandwidth depth, path condition, path design, auxiliary equipment support, equipment maintenance, and operator influence; 3) adjustment and development of the mathematical model; and 4) assessment of the effects of the application of the mathematical model for the management of OTR tires. A mathematical model has been developed that considers the influence of factors on the consumption of OTR tires, applying linear and quadratic regression models. There are very few models that represent the inconveniences of mine tire handling. Therefore, the application of the proposed model in the management of OTR tires makes it possible to make improvement opportunities visible, as well as to make a quantitative and qualitative evaluation. Finally, this article contributes to mining to generate an indicator that is measurable, applicable and antecedent for future management of mine haulage.
