Abstract

The main objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of a class session of a reinforcement workshop to improve the academic performance of students in the course of Chemistry in the preparation period for entering a higher education institute. This workshop is given to four groups of the PREPARATEC cycle of the course Chemistry in one year (2017), two weeks before the test, which evaluates the effectiveness. The scores of the first test will be compared with those of the other two tests using a statistical comparison to evaluate if there are significant differences in the scores. The development of the group workshop comprises three stages: virtual test applying Socrative by using a smartphone, problems development, and presentation of problems solutions at the class board. The statistical results indicate that out of seven comparative tests in the four sections, four have a significant difference, that is to say, there is an increase in the scores when the proposed workshop is applied, against to one that did not have this workshop. Finally, it is observed that in the classroom there is an increase in the scores, which implies that the workshops improve the academic performance of students.
